Tim Bradley/Manny Pacquiao: Stop the madness

bradley0001By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: When I read that Tim Bradley wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. for his next fight in October or November, I quickly dismissed it. Bradley knows a couple things about Floyd. One, Mayweather only fights in May and September. Two, Bradley knows that Mayweather already stated that he will never do business with Top Rank again. And let’s press the rewind button here.

Shortly before his rematch with Manny Pacquiao, Bradley had the world in his hands. He was a free agent; he won two great fights against Juan Manuel Marquez and Ruslan Provodnikov, and the WBO strap around his waist. Instead, he resigned with Top Rank, lost his belt, and his options of fighters are slim within his own stable. Bradley didn’t even try to explore his options after his contract with Top Rank was up.

Who said he even had to sign with Golden Boy? He could have done a one fight deal with Floyd or any other welter weight of his choice and went back to Top Rank if things did not work out.

Bradley had two things working for him to entice Floyd for a fight. He had a title and he was on a win streak. Bradley also stated that he didn’t know what was over there (referring to the money at Showtime). How could he have known when he didn’t even bother to discuss anything with the cable network? Bradley’s deal wasn’t open to the public, but he did get 6 million for fighting Pacquiao. But that was Pacquiao. Who knows what his guarantees will be afterward because Bradley is not a pay per view fighter. Bradley needs to sit down somewhere and stop acting desperate. He had his chance and blew it in a major way. And what’s all this talk about Manny wants to fight the winner of Miguel Cotto and Sergio Martinez? This is nothing but smoke and mirrors. There are major obstacles keeping these fight options from becoming a reality. The obvious one is that neither Sergio nor Cotto are employed by Top Rank. The second reason is Pac stated after his fight with Antonio Margarito (which took place at jr. middleweight) he would no longer be fight above 147. And the third reason is neither Cotto nor Sergio are employed by Top Rank.

Given the recent history of Pacquiao, he’ll more than likely be facing the winner of Juan Manuel Marquez and Mike Alvarado. The Cotto/Martinez bout is taking place at middleweight which mean both fighters would have to drain themselves down to meet Pac who again stated he wasn’t fighting above 147. Even if Marquez is victorious, he is, so far, holding his ground about not wanting a fifth fight with Pacquiao. This would leave Alvarado and this fight won’t sell at all. But Marquez doesn’t need this fifth fight. While fans may saying that Pac leads the series 2 to 1, boxing is all about what have you done for me lately. And lately, Marquez closed the chapter with a knockout that left Pac unconscious. That’s what people will remember the most. So Bradley can hush about wanting to fight Floyd and Manny can stop playing with people’s minds about fighting Cotto or Sergio.
