maidana40(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Chester Rivers: Does Floyd Mayweather Jr (45-0, 26 KO’s), his adviser Al Haymon and Showtime really think we, the public, are dumb enough to think this fight tonight between Mayweather and Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) could be the moment that Floyd loses for the first time in his career? The Mayweather-Maidana fight will be taking place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, and televised on Showtime pay-per-view.

Mayweather has made a very comfortable living lately beating up overly hyped fighters coming off the biggest wins of their careers. Marcos Maidana is the stereotypical Mayweather opponent. He’s slow, flat footed, telegraphs his movement and most of all he is coming off the biggest win of his career.

Maidana made waves in December for beating up Mayweather wanna-be Adrien Broner by a 12 round unanimous decision in San Antonio, Texas. Maidana’s performance against a generic brand of Mayweather is the sole reason Maidana was chosen for this fight. This time Marcos will be in the ring with the real thing. In the build up to this fight Showtime ALL ACCESS used the Broner win as a reason to believe Maidana to be a live 15 to 1 dog in this fight. The truth is, he’s a 100% dead duck.

What do I think will happen in this fight? It all depend on which Maidana that shows up. The aggressive Maidana that throws caution to the win will be picked apart with pot shots and straight rights. The passive Maidana, like the one who fought Devon Alexander will be thoroughly out boxed. Either way it will be Mayweather by a wide unanimous decision.

This fight is properly named The Moment. For the Mayweather naysayers it’s not the moment that Mayweather loses. The moment was during the weigh-in when the expression and body language of Maidana showed fear as though he realized this is The Moment he faces the real Floyd Mayweather.
