floyd1By Maurice Gichuhi: There is always talk of his impending retirement surfacing even before he ends his lucrative six-fight contract with Showtime. Floyd Mayweather would give the fans a nice farewell package by way of rematching those fighters that came close to beating him.

Its only fair that the record (46-0) stand one last test from these boxers.

Firstly, its a loss to the fans that Oscar Dela Hoya is retired because his rematch would be a big attraction since both fighters have carried on the heat of competition and hatred even as they transact business today as boxing promoters. Oscar cant wait to see Floyd lose and it could be in no better way than both of them in the ring.

The hard hitting, well skilled Miguel Cotto made Mayweather taste his own blood by unleashing flurries on the pound for pound king. Pacquiao recently admitted that in all the fights he has been, only Cotto and Joshua Clottey have hit him hard. By honoring the fans with a second face off with Cotto, Floyd will also be risking a loss via a knockout since Cotto is now more experienced at middleweight than him.

After his recent fight with Mayweather, Canelo Alvarez had boxing fans and analyst conclude that he is a good fighter to challenge Mayweathers dominance but their fight happened too early before he could mature into a mighty force. Alvarez seemed to be in a foreign place when in the ring with Floyd something that is unusual in his earlier and most recent fight against Alfredo Angulo. If only Canelo can see Mayweather as just another fighter to put his best craft on, then a rematch would be a guaranteed action pack. I believe Canelo would win via TKO by displaying an aggressive style.

Lastly, to prove critics wrong and restore his place as a knockout artist, Marcos Maidana will have to press harder for his much deserved rematch with Floyd. He should show skill in every step in the ring and make point scoring attacks that will leave no doubt he is a problem solving fighter.

Exit with pride for Floyd is to take the final challenge against these bigger, younger, and fresher fighters.
