Khan using Hyperbaric chamber as part of training

In an unusual training regimen, Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) is using a Hyperbaric chamber to help him heal after workouts. Khan says in the chamber for 20-30 minutes to breathe in the oxygen with the belief that it helps promote healing for his body. Khan isn’t the only one that uses a hyperbolic chamber as part of his training. Juan Manuel Marquez uses one. Obviously his recent loss to Tim Bradley shows that Hyperbaric chambers don’t make up for just plain old youth and a good fight strategy.

Khan is still waiting and hoping to get the fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 3rd, and contrary to popular opinion, Khan isn’t trying to get the fight against Mayweather so that he can get a cash out payday to retire on or to feather his next for a retirement in the near future.

One of the reasons why boxing fans feel that Khan is just trying to cash out with the Mayweather fight is because Khan has said that he wants to retire by the time he’s 28, which will be taking place in 2014. If Khan is going to stick by his word and retire by the time he turns 28, then the Mayweather fight will likely Khan’s last chance at getting a huge payday.

Another reason why fans feel that Khan is just looking to cash out is because he turned down a risky fight against former IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander last December. The fight would have given Khan a nice payday of over $1 million. The fact that Khan said no to the fight gives some fans the feeling that Khan is so afraid of losing again that he’s turning down fights so that he can get that one big payday to give him a golden parachute to go off into retirement off of.

In response to someone asking Khan if he was just looking to get a payday in the Mayweather fight, Khan said “LOL. No. I get paid good fighting other names. It’s my fight.”

As you can see, Khan hasn’t given up hopes of getting the Mayweather fight. While he’s not actually begging for the fight on his hands and knees, you can see that he’s very eager to fight him. And what’s up with him saying “It’s my fight!”?

Khan’s thoughts for wanting to face Mayweather is that he wants to test himself against the best fighter in boxing to show that he matches up with him, and can best him. It would be something a little easier to understand if Khan were actively to avenge some of his three losses. When you get beat be lesser fighters than Mayweather, you should want to get back in the ring to avenge the losses and show the world that you’ve passed the test. Khan isn’t doing that.

When Khan gets beat, he moves on to generally weaker opposition without trying to avenge the defeat. What makes it even sadder is that Khan is calling out Mayweather for the May 3rd fight without having done what he’s supposed to do by avenging the losses to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia. That just gives the appearance of a desperate person looking to cash out rather than pay his dues and work his way into a big fight against Mayweather.
