Peter Fury not interested in matching Hughie against Anthony Joshua unless a title and a lot of money on the line

fury67307 - CopyBy Scott Gilfoid: Trainer Peter Fury says he’s really not interested in letting his son Hughie Fury (12-0, 7 KO’s) fight unbeaten heavyweight prospect Anthony Joshua (3-0, 3 KO’s) in 2014 unless there’s a world title on the line and/or a lot of money. Unfortunately neither of which is likely possible for the two tall 6’6″ British heavyweights to meet in the ring.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn is interested in putting him in with the 19-year-old Hughie. No doubt, Hearn sees Joshua as having the skills to be able to beat Hughie, but Peter isn’t really interested in that fight right now.

Peter Fury told IFL TV that Hughie still doesn’t have his “man strength” at this time, and that the 24-year-old Joshua is now a full grown man in comparison. Peter doesn’t see it as quite a fair fight at this moment in time due to Joshua being 5 years older than young Hughie. The problem with this thinking is that we’ve heard Hughie being talked about as wanting to break Mike Tyson’s record for becoming the youngest heavyweight world champion of all-time by winning a world title by early next year. Tyson was 20 years and 6 months when he captured a world title.

Peter said “If a titles on the line or if they’re talking very serious money, I’ll put my son in with him tomorrow. So basically that’s where we’re at.”

So if Hughie is really to be taken serious as being able to win a world title by next year, then you would have to assume that he should be able to blast out Anthony Joshua. I mean, Joshua isn’t in the class of World champion Wladimir Klitschko. Just look at the two guys fight and you can tell how far behind Joshua is compared to Wladimir. There’s no comparison. If Hughie expects to be able to defeat Wladimir by next year, then he at least least should be able to defeat Joshua, right?

I honestly think Hughie would have a decent chance of beating Joshua, because Hughie’s faster, has a better jab, moves better in the ring, and is a lot more flexible. Hughie looks like the better athlete at this point compared to Joshua. He’s not all tight like Joshua and weighed down with muscles that look more like a weight lifer’s muscles than a boxer. Lennox Lewis was a big guy, but he could actually punch and move well around the ring. Joshua is real stiff, not powerful, and he seems to push his punches, as if he’s being met with incredibly stiff air resistance each time he throws a shot. The thing with Hughie though is he puffs around the eyes when he gets hit, and he could get stopped on a cut against Joshua even while dominating him.
