Televised Undercard

10 round heavyweight bout

Brant Jennings from Philadelphia improves to 18-0 10KO’s by knocking out Artur Spilka from Poland who drops to (16-1 12KO’s). This fight was by far the most entertaining bout of the night. This was my first time seeing Brant Jennings fight and I would like to see him against someone like Mike Perez or Deontay Wilder in the near future. The fight was competitive but Artur’s chin failed him. He has shown a weak chin before, especially in his two fights with Mike Mollo in 2013. Spilka has decent boxing skills and fights out of the southpaw stance and was undefeated going into this bout. This was a great win for Brant Jennings and hopefully he gets put into meaningful fights in the near future.

HBO Main Event: Mikey Garcia v Juan Carlos Burgos (WBO Super Featherweight World Title)

Mikey Garcia is one of the best and most accomplished YOUNG fighters in the sport of boxing in my humble opinion. He is a technician in the ring and is very well schooled. However, Burgos’s height/reach and constant moving seemed to give Garcia some problems. But Mikey found a home for the right cross throughout most of the fight and won an extremely boring unanimous decision. Hopefully the fight with Yuriorkis Gamboa will be next for Mikey Garcia as both fighters are in search to fight a big name.
