Who’s A Better Fighter: Marquez or Pacquiao?

marquez5By Alon Calinao Dy: Manny Pacquiao was unstoppable over the past years from 2007-2011. He retired legendary boxers such as Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Erik Morales, and many more.

When Timothy Bradley defeated him last year, it was an error of judging and many boxing pundits and experts became frustrated about the decision. They were worried about the sport of boxing in the near future.

When Marquez stopped Pacquiao by knockout, many critics told the Filipino boxing icon was done in boxing. After what happened to Rios last Saturday, these critics are now changing their perspectives, as if they’ve seen the old Pacquiao who was a beast in the ring 6 years ago.

Marquez felt bitter every time he fought Pacquiao. He even told everyone he was a better fighter than the Filipino boxer after he won the fight. But it didn’t prove anything. He complained most of the time over the decisions of the judges including his latest bout against Tim Bradley. As Ralph Waldo Emerson would say, “A great man is always willing to be little .”

Marquez should be a man enough to accept his defeats from Pacquiao, as Pacquiao welcomed his loss to him last year. We’ve seen a lot of excuses from Marquez when Pacquiao dominated him. He couldn’t internalize the fact that someone got his ass whooped.

Pacquiao, on the other hand, was always a humble being since the start. He didn’t like trash talking for he has respect to every opponent he faces in the ring. Even trainer Robert Garcia made a comment about Pacquiao. He said, after the Pacquiao versus Rios fight, to Tv reporter Elie Seckbach, “He is a good person. ”

The rivalry between Marquez and Pacquiao is not over yet until now. We’ve seen Marquez trying to prove himself in front of others that he’s a better fighter than Pacquiao. Pacquiao, however, has nothing to prove in the sweet science. Just by giving his best shot to all boxing fans is enough for him to gain recognition and earn a huge respect.
