Devon Alexander willing to fight Khan in Dubai if the money is good

alexander55By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (25-1, 14 KO’s) is understandably not eager to fight Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) on December 7th in Dubai in front of what would likely be a packed audience of Khan supporters with very, very few fans supporting the talented American Alexander.

However, Alexander will agree to take the fight if he gets the right kind of cash offer from Golden Boy Promotions to fly all over there and fight under those conditions. Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer will be flying to Dubai tomorrow to try and find a suitable site for the Khan-Alexander fight and he’s hoping to come back to the U.S with some good news.

Schaefer said ESPN’s Dan Rafael, “I talked to Team Alexander about going to Dubai, and it’s coming down to ‘Show me the money.’ So that’s why I’m going to Dubai. Let’s see if they can show us the money.”

It probably won’t matter whether Alexander is fighting in front of a huge pro-Khan crowd in Dubai, because I have a feeling he’ll quiet the crowd very quickly in the fight by knocking Khan down a couple of times in the first two rounds of the fight. If Khan tries to throw his flurries, Alexander will nail him with something that’ll put him down.

Unless Khan’s trainer Virgil Hunter puts him on the 100% defensive mode, I see Khan getting knocked out by the 6th round by Alexander. I really think Khan’s punch resistance has worn down from the punishment he took in the Marcos Maidana fight in addition to his 4th round knockout loss to Danny Garcia.

In Khan’s last fight against Julio Diaz earlier this year, Khan looked like a shot fighter in getting badly hurt and knocked down by Diaz. Khan was hurt at least three times in that fight, maybe even more and this was against a non-prime Diaz.

I rate Devon Alexander as a much better fighter than Julio Diaz and I see Khan being in trouble big time against Alexander. It doesn’t matter that Alexander isn’t a huge puncher. His hand speed will make him dangerous. At this point in Khan’s career, I think he’s vulnerable to even non-punchers like Alexander. All Alexander needs to do is land his shots and Khan’s chin will likely fail the test.
