Will Pacquiao continue his career if Rios knocks him cold?

pac6By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum recently said that the Filipino fighter may never fight again in the United States due to the high taxes that are taken out of Pacquiao’s pay per view money that he gets from American viewers.

Instead, Arum wants to have Pacquiao fight in Asia, perhaps for the rest of what’s left of his career. Arum is seemingly excited about the potential for big money from Chinese pay per view. However, it’s unclear whether Pacquiao will choose to fight if he gets knocked out by Brandon Rios in his next fight on November 23rd in Macau, China.

A loss to Rios would be a clear sign that Pacquiao needs to retire from the sport. It would be his THIRD straight loss and you can’t explain three straight losses by blaming it on family problems, cramps or just getting caught.

The real question is would Pacquiao’s pride cause him to retire from boxing rather than lingering and getting beaten by all or most of Arum Top Rank stable fighters or would Pacquiao hang on for the sake of the big paydays he’d still likely get from the fights in China that Arum sets him up with?

I personally think Pacquiao’s pride would be too much for him to stick around and getting chewed up by Arum’s stable fighters, as they make a minor name for themselves by beating Pacquiao near the end of his career.

It would be a tragedy if Pacquiao’s final days of his career saw him fighting Arum’s guys Mike Alvarado, Tim Bradley and Jessie Vargas and losing to all or most of them.

Arum is such a good promoter that I think he’d could make a bundle for Pacquiao even if he gets knocked out by Rios by taking him on a barnstorming trip around China to attract interest in Pacquiao and then having more of his fights take place in China on PPV.

It would be sad to see Rios knocking Pacquiao out in November, and then the other fighters in Arum’s stable taking turns tearing Pacquiao up in fights set up by Arum.
