Fickle fans and suck up supporters

When I first began following boxing in the 80’s, I of course had fighters I always rooted for and that’s fine I still do it now. Manny Pacquiao, David Haye, Miguel Cotto and many more. This isn’t always due to them been the best it has more to do with personal preference.

Robert Guerrero: God has prepped me to take over boxing

Prayer before workoutBy Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) is saying that God has singled him out to take over the sport of boxing by beating undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) next month in Las Vegas, Nevada. Guerrero is stuck on the angle of wanting to humble Mayweather by beating him in front of the world and he feels that God will help him achieve his goal.

At their recent media conference, Guerrero said “God’s groomed me and prepped me for this time to take over boxing. That’s why it’s like a modern day David and Goliath…God’s put me in this position for a reason.”

Warren: Khan has no margin for error against Diaz

khan6By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan’s former promoter Frank Warren believes that Khan has no margin of error for his fight tomorrow night against Julio Diaz (40-7-1, 29 KO’s) in Sheffield. While Warren expects Khan to win this fight by knockout, he feels that Khan can’t afford to make any mistakes because it could hurt his career potentially if he gets knocked out and takes yet another crushing defeat.

Khan goes into this fight having lost two out of his last three fights and that kind of tells you how bad things are going for him right now. Things are so bad that his promoters at Golden Boy still aren’t willing to put him in with an actual contender. Diaz isn’t ranked in the top 15 and neither was Khan’s previous opponent lightweight Carlos Molina.

Mayweather stripped of WBA 154 lb. title

floyd666By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. is saying he was stripped of his WBA junior middleweight title by the World Boxing Association, according to fightnews.com. Mayweather, who holds the WBC welterweight title as well, says he had plans on defending his stripped WBA 154 lb. title, but he can’t do it now with it having been stripped from him by the WBA.

Mayweather captured the WBA title a year ago last May in beating then WBA champion Miguel Cotto by a 12 round unanimous decision.

Mayweather said this as quoted by Fightnews.com: “I wanted to defend my WBA title after this fight, but I guess I’m no longer the WBA champ, so I didn’t know I got stripped of my title.”

Tomorrow we will see another pointless fight for Deontay Wilder

wilder213By Mark Havey: Deontay Wilder talks about his fight with Audley Harrison being defining. It certainly is. But it only goes to show how slowing his career is being handled and with extreme caution. Audley Harrison vs Deontay Wilder is of very little importance. Neither have a top 10 ranking and neither will have any time soon. For Audley that boat has sailed. And Deontay’s team see no rush in putting him in with the top fighters.

I can only assume that Harrison has got this fight on the back of his Prizefighter win. But that format suits him perfectly. I have always said that you can put Harrison in every Prizefighter and you will see him win every time. say what you like about him as a pro, but in the unpaid ranks he was impressive. But he have repeatedly heard him say, “Yes I can” whilst seeing time and time again, no he can’t.

YouTube video
By Scott Gilfoid: Former two-time IBF lightweight champion Julio Diaz (40-7-1, 29 KO’s) figures he may likely need a knockout on Saturday night over Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) to keep from getting jobbed by the judges in their fight in Sheffield, UK.

Diaz is Mexican and he’s fighting Khan in his home country of Britain where he’s a huge star for the Brits. They love the guy.

Weights: Sergio Martinez vs. Martin Murray

Sergio Martinez vs Martin MurrayBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (50-2-2, 28 KO’s) weighed in at 159.4 lbs. today in his weigh-in for his first defense of his World Boxing Council 160 lb. strap against his unbeaten challenger Martin Murray (25-0-1, 11 KO’s).

Martinez looks incredible shape and he was positively staring holes through Murray’s face when the two fighters stood for their face off. Murray came in at a little heavier at 159.6 lbs. for their fight at the Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina.

There was clearly a look of nervousness in the eyes of the 30-year-old Murray. He looked like a trapped deer in the headlights of a big truck heading straight towards him.
