Hatton gives Haye a great chance at winning another world title

haye22By Scott Gilfoid: Ricky Hatton thinks former two division world champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) has the talent to capture another heavyweight world heavyweight title in his latest comeback. Hatton believes the 6’2” 210 pound Haye can snatch one of the heavyweight titles ease for some reason.

Haye will be starting his comeback on June 29th in a fight that will take place in Hatton’s home city of Manchester, UK. There isn’t an opponent, but Haye’s trainer Adam Booth says it’s supposed to be an unbeaten top 15 contender.

Of course that means jack because there are plenty of god awful heavyweights with unbeaten records filled with fluff from top to bottom in the top 15, so it’s not as if Haye would actually be accomplishing anything if he beat one of them.

Hatton said to thesun.co.uk “David is coming back for all the right reasons. But he won’t choose any old opponent he can knock over without too much trouble. David will want to test himself to the full…the world title is there for the taking.”

So Hatton believes Haye is coming back for the right reasons. I wonder what those reasons are? I had the impression he was coming back because he wanted to get a big payday fight against one of the Klitschkos and then go back into retirement. Is that what Hatton is refereeing to when he says Haye is coming back for the right reasons.

As far as Hatton saying Haye won’t choose any old opponent, well he did face a lot of old ones when he was the WBA heavyweight champion by taking on 40-year-old Audley Harrison and 38-year-old John Ruiz. What was up with that? Weren’t those old ones?

I really don’t see a world title there is there for the taking for Haye like Hatton says. If Hatton is talking about the Klitschkos, then he’s dreaming because Haye will never be able to beat those guys. He might be able to beat Alexander Povetkin if he could get a fight against him, but by the time he does, Povetkin won’t be the WBA champion anymore because Wladimir will have beaten him already.
