Is Random Blood Testing a good thing now?

By Babatis Banda: We all know that the biggest fight of the sport did not take place because of RBT. So much has so far happened over the years. Manny Pacquiao, the Filipino icon refused to agree to the full random blood tests that Floyd Mayweather wanted in their first negotiations in 2010, and and instead, he went the way of the law for comments Mayweather made. With rumors that Arum will ask for RBT for the 5th Marquez vs. Pacquiao bout, I beg to ask; has RBT become a good thing now?

There is so much bias and so much open hypocrisy that it is really mind boggling. Before the Marquez/Pacquiao bout, we heard how trainer Freddie Roach was trying to insinuate that Juan Manuel Marquez could have been on prohibited substances. This time, with it was coming from Pacquiao’s camp nothing very little was said about it. We all know what happened during the fight, Pacquiao was totally put-out in the most horrific manner imaginable. For the entire sport, very few of such knock-outs have taken place right at the top of the sport.

Though expected, it has been very annoying to hear supporters of Pacquiao claiming that Marquez was on PEDs even when the regular tests proved otherwise. Not so long ago, they argued that these tests were really enough and anything more than that was a clear sign that Floyd was afraid to fight Pacquiao. They argued that Pacquiao had never failed the sanctioned regular tests. How silly, now we all know that Pacquiao turned down that fight. It is now clear that just because the demand was coming from Pacquiao’s major rivalry then, it had to be a bad thing. Unfortunately, Pacquiao is now nowhere near to being the major rival to the P4P king anymore.

Pacquiao’s supporter’s reasoning seems to defy all logic. There is no coherent reasoning at all for as long as they are not in agreement with the facts. My question is why all over a sudden; RBT has become a good thing. I wish somebody could listen to Teddy Atlas. This man has the sport at heart. We need more regulation of this sport otherwise it is becoming a joke.
