chisora3432By Scott Gilfoid: Former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (15-4, 9 KO’s) wants to get a shot against unbeaten British heavyweight contender David Price (15-0, 13 KO’s) if the fight can be made. The 29-year-old Chisora is tentatively scheduled to fight on March 16th on the Ricky Burns vs. Miguel Vazquez card if he can get licensed to fight by the British Boxing Board of Control.

Chisora had his license taken away last year after his brawl with David Haye at the Vitali Klitschko – Chisora post fight press conference. Chisora is going to try and appeal the suspension to see if he can fight on the March 16th. If he can get his suspension lifted, then Chisora wants to fight the tall 6’7” Price in March at the Wembley Arena.

Chisora said to the Sportmole.co.uk “I love fighting. Do you know what would be a great fight? Me and David Price.”

Price has a fight scheduled on February 23rd against 6’5” Tony Thompson (36-3, 24 KO’s). If Price can win that fight in two or three rounds without getting too much there’s no reason why Price shouldn’t agree to get back in the ring a little less than a month later against Chisora.

I mean, if Price is the real deal like a lot of Brits seem to think he is then he shouldn’t have any qualms about getting back in the ring to fight Chisora on a quick turnaround. After all, Chisora has lost four out of his last five fights in the last two years. Chisora’s last win came in November 2011 against journeyman Remigijus Ziausys (19-43-3).

So would Price’s promoter Frank Maloney allow him to fight a hard hitter like Chisora? I think that’s a big no. Chisora can actually punch a little and if you’ll notice the once constant in all 15 of Price’s opponents during his five-year pro career it’s that they can’t punch. Price has been matched very carefully and the big hitters or even the medium big hitters like Chisora have been ignored. I don’t see that pattern changing, so I would have to expect that Chisora will be ignored as if he’s not even there by Price and Maloney.
