marquez534By Mark Havey: 2012 has been a year of controversy, suspense, intrigue and many cracking fights. Pay per view figures have verified that boxing is far from dead. Forums went crazy on a regular basis. Boxing had people talking.

Upset of the year has to be Timothy Bradley vs Manny Pacquiao. It led to more talk than any other fight of the year. It left the boxing world furious after they witnessed Pacquiao easily dominate his much younger opponent, only for the judges to award the fight to Bradley.

Knockout of the year I have given to Jaun Manuel Marquez after he ferociously stopped the iron chinned fighter of the decade, Manny Pacquiao. In their three previous fights Marquez had failed to even knock down his much feared rival. Both wanted a knock out in their 4th fight and Marquez was the one who achieved that. Not a average knockout, Pacquiao was on the floor for well over a minute.

Fight of the year for me is Sergio Martinez vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. there are a few reason but mainly it’s because I didn’t think it would ever happen. There was alot of hype and the fight wasn’t an anti climax. Martinez dominated for 11 rounds. The final round Chavez made his last stand and seriously hurt Martinez but was rightfully beaten.

Round of the year. This has to be Sergio Martinez vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr again. The last round had Martinez staggering and on the floor badly hurt. Chavez was so close to snatching the fight from the jaws of defeat, but it wasn’t to be. of all the rounds I have watched this year, this one had me up and screaming the most.

Fighter of the year had me torn. I was thinking of two people. The first was Andre Ward after he completely dominated and stopped Chad Dawson in the 10th round. But due to inactivity and the fact that Dawson had stepped down in weight, Ward didn’t feel right.

I have gone with Carl Froch. In 2011 he was beaten by Andre Ward but came back from that to have a great 2012. First he spectacularly knocked out the IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute. Many said he couldn’t do it and predicted the end of his career. But he proved everyone wrong and stopped the unbeaten champion in round 5. The he took an easier fight against Yusaf Mack. Froch asserted himself early and demonstrated his power with a 3rd round knockout.
