Hearn to Ward: Froch will fight Kessler then you

hearn343By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn, the promoter for IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch, sent a twitter to the talented WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward yesterday in response to Ward’s recent interview with Sky Sports in which Ward said that Hearn and his fighter Froch were misleading the boxing public making them think that Froch was going to fight Ward but not really having the true intention of doing that.

Hearn said on his twitter to Ward “Merry Christmas, Andre. I wasn’t going to tweet today like L’Oreal, you’re worth it. All we have ever said is we want is the [Mikkel] Kessler fight then you. Nothing misleading. Hope you and the family have a nice day.”

Ward said in response “That’s fine, but Carl Froch and Eddie Hearn need to stop misleading the fans!! Tell the truth. You don’t want the fight.”

Well, let’s be real here. There probably isn’t going to be a Ward-Froch fight because the way that Hearn set it up with his scheduling for Froch, he’s foing to face Kessler first sometime next year and Froch is probably going to lose that fight. Once Froch has lost to Kessler, then that’ll kill whatever interest there was in a Ward-Froch rematch.

I mean, what point is there for Ward to fight a beaten Froch when there are other guys out there who aren’t coming off of losses. Froch will be licking his wounds after Kessler spanks him for the second time, and the last thing he’s going to want or need is to have a tough fight against Ward immediately after that. My guess is Hearn will put Froch in with Lucian Bute after the loss to Kessler, and who knows what’ll have in the Froch-Bute 2 rematch because the fight will take place in Montreal, Canada, the home city for Bute, and he’ll be ready beat Froch.

So technically Hearn can say he’s not misleading the boxing public about a future Froch-Ward fight, but in reality it comes out to the same. Froch is going to lose Kessler and that will put any idea of a Froch-Ward 2 fight out of reach.

It’s just too bad that Hearn didn’t match Froch up with Ward immediately because then at least the fight would be guaranteed to happen. Froch would be coming into a Ward rematch likely strutting like a peacock because of his wins over Yusaf Mack and Bute, and it would make for an interesting fight preview, before Ward goes out and dominates Froch again.
