Image: Haye: Yusaf Mack isn't in Froch's leagueBy Scott Gilfoid: A bored and tired looking David Haye gave IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) a vote of confidence over his opponent Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) for Saturday night at the Capital FM Arena, in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom. Haye figures that Mack isn’t at the same level as Froch and feels this should be a fairly easy win for Froch.

Speaking with Livefight.com, Haye said “Go out and do your thing with this guy, Mack. He’s not in your league…Let the Cobra bite.”

Oh brother. How funny. Haye sounding like he’s coming from up high in giving advice when he himself failed to lead by example in his dreadfully one-sided 12 round decision loss in his biggest fight of his career against Wladimir Klitschko last year. And here Haye is now giving advice to Froch. That’s a funny as heck.

Haye is probably right about Mack not being in the same league as Froch, but what does that say about Froch and his promoter Eddie Hearn for having picked him out? At this stage in Froch’s career he shouldn’t be fighting guys that aren’t in his league, should he? Mack was stopped by IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud recently and now Froch is going to fight Cloud’s victim? I don’t quite understand that.

Andre Ward just beat Chad Dawson, the fighter considered to be the best guy at light heavyweight, and here we have Froch fighting Mack. What does that say about the match-making being done for Froch? Heck, if Froch and his promoter Hearn want to drag a light heavyweight down in weight then why not go after Cloud, the guy that beat Mack?

Despite the problems Mack has had in the ring during his career I still think he’s got a chance to beat Froch if only because Froch is not as good as his record would have you believe. Froch lost to Ward, lost to Mikkel Kessler, and a lot boxing fans think Froch should have a loss his record from his fight with Andre Dirrell. And Froch was within seconds of losing to Jermain Taylor. If you look at those fights you can make a pretty argument that Froch’s record should be 27-4, not 29-2. That’s a big difference. 27-4 is no better than Mack’s record of 31-4. In that case tomorrow night’s fight between Mack and Froch really should be a toss up bout if anything.
