It’s perhaps a good thing for the 34-year-old Chagaev that the fight is only scheduled for eight rounds because he’s been looking a little heavy as of late and having to carry around the extra fat for another four rounds would be difficult against a busy fighter like Perez.

Chagaev has won his last three fights since getting beaten by Alexander Povetkin last year. Chagaev’s time as the World Boxing Association champion was marked by a long illness that prevented him from defending the title the way he would have liked. He won the WBA title against Nikolay Valuev in 2007, and was only able to defend the title twice for losing it.

Also on the card will be WBA female flyweight champion Susi Kentikian (29-1, 16 KO’s) facing Carina Moreno (22-5, 6 KO’s) in a 10 round bout. The 25-year-old Kentikian is coming off of a 10 round majority loss in her last fight against Melissa McMorrow last May. That was Kentikian’s first loss of her seven year pro career.

However, Kentikian has had plenty of close call decisions and draws in fights where many boxing fans thought she should have lost. It was a matter of time the 5’1″ Kentikian finally registered her first loss because he’s undersized for the flyweight weight class and doesn’t have the power to make up for her lack of height. Kentikian has amazing hand speed and an all out attacking style that tends to help her in winning decisions. However, against the bigger fighters she tends to struggle. Kentikian should be okay in this fight, as the 31-year-old Moreno has lost four out of her last five fights.
