Contrary to rumors that have been floating around, Ortiz didn’t have a second surgery to repair his jaw. It’s been one but his jaw has definitely been slow in healing due to the multiple fractures that he suffered.

According to RingTV, the 25-year-old Ortiz will be appearing in a movie called AWOL 72. The filming hasn’t started but it’s expected to soon. It’s a military based movie and Ortiz is being given a major character despite having no previous acting experience in movies.

As for his jaw, Ortiz said to RingTV “I already had my surgery, my jaw feels good. I can actually open it and yawn now, I can eat. A few weeks ago I was still hurting, every time I yawned I had to hold it shut. I’m pretty happy that I can actually open.”

It’s good that Ortiz is taking time off from boxing because the last thing he needs is to rush himself back and suffer another jaw injury. When you suffer injuries to the jaw it’s easy to re-break it when a fighter rushes back into the ring too soon. Ortiz might need a considerable amount of time to insure that he doesn’t get hurt again.

Evander Holyfield turns 50 day

Former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield (44-10-2, 29 KO’s) turns 50-years-old today, October 19th. Holyfield still plans on continuing his boxing careers despite his lack of success. He’s fought as a pro for 28 years and there’s no end in sight for the aging former two world champion. Holyfield still wants to get a title shot and believes he can beat the Klitschkos if only they would give him the chance. He’s not going to get that chance, not against the Klitschkos and not against the WBA champion Alexander Povetkin.

Holyfield’s only chance at getting a title shot is if one of the interim heavyweight champions some day pick him out of the pack in order to get a payday. Don’t be surprised if we see that in the not too distance future. In boxing it’s all about facing guys with a name and Holyfield is one of the few fighters in the heavyweight division with a recognizable name, so we’ll probably be seeing him again but not against a real world champion.
