By Dan Ambrose: WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero (30-1-1, 18 KO’s) sees himself only one fight away from a mega fight against one of the top fighters in boxing, such as Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao or Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. However, it’s not going to be easy for the 29-year-old Guerrero because he’s got to beat former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (28-1, 22 KO’s) on November 24th at the Citizens Business Bank Arena, in Ontario, California, USA.

Guerrero said “If you saw the fight with [Selcuk] Adyin. I feel that Aydin is a bigger puncher than Andre Berto. It’s about being in great shape. You find out in the ring whether you can take a punch or not. We’ll find out and he’s going to find out. I’m one fight away from that mega fight. This will get us to the next step. So he’s [Berto] not fought a lefty like me. I’m ready to go at it. I’m just worrying about my game plan, staying in great shape. I’m excited that the welterweight division is stacked. We’re here to stay unless no one wants to fight me. If not, we’ll go to 154.”

Guerrero is letting his ambition get well ahead of him with talk of a mega fight and moving up to 154. I think he may find out that Berto is one step too far for him. Guerrero is probably right that Selcuk Aydin is a harder puncher than Berto in terms of a single shot. However, Aydin doesn’t hit that much harder than Berto, and he doesn’t have Berto’s hand speed or ability to throw fast combinations.

Berto will be hitting Guerrero with shots almost as hard as Aydin’s, except that Berto will be throwing them in combination form with blazing hand speed. That’s going to be hard for Guerrero because he looked slow and weak in beating Aydin by a 12 round unanimous decision last July. That version or Guerrero would really struggle against Berto, there’s no question. Guerrero is going to have to improve for this fight because Berto will simply outgun him if Guerrero fights like that on November 24th.
