Price: A win over Audley will lead me to bigger and things

By Scott Gilfoid: British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (13-0, 11 KO’s) sees his fight this Saturday night against 40-year-old former 2000 Olympic gold medalist Audley Harrison (28-5, 21 KO’s) as a move to bigger things in the future for him in their fight at the Echo Arena, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom.

Price said to RingTV “This is the fight to move onto bigger and better things, but I am treating it like anyn other because i don’t want to feel any added pressure on the night.”

Bigger and better things, Price says. The opponent that has been mentioned to be next for Price is 45-year-old Matt Skelton, who just happens to be fighting on the undercard of the Price-Harrison fight on Saturday night against Jakov Gospic. If that’s what Price considers bigger and better fight then I feel sorry for him and for boxing fans. I just hope he never wins an actual title because I have a feeling that we’d see a lot of soft opposition that Price would be calling bigger and better.

I really don’t see the whole point in Price facing Harrison. Price 29, about to 30. He’s too old to be fighting someone like Harrison. I know Price’s fans point out that he’s only had 13 pro fights, but they forget how old he is and how long his amateur career was. Price should be fighting top contenders at his age, not 2nd tier guys in their 40s like Harrison.

Price hopes that Harrison will mix it up with him early on Saturday. He seems to be inviting a tear up for some reason. I think Price will be sorry if he gets it because if Harrison fights all out he then he could win the fight if he lands one of his big shots on Price’s chin. Harrison still has the size, power, speed and athleticism to put Price away. He just needs to let his hands go early before he gets hit with something hard from Price and winds up getting knocked out.
