Image: Mikey Garcia could fight Orlando Cruz on 11/10; wants GamboaBy Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten featherweight contender Miguel Angel “Mikey” Garcia (29-0, 25 KO’s) could wind up facing #4 WBO Orlando Cruz (18-2-1, 9 KO’s) next month on November 10th if the 31-year-old Cruz, who holds down the WBO Latino featherweight title, is able to get through his October 19th title defense Jorge Pazos (20-4, 13 KO’s).

Garcia was supposed to be challenging WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido on November 10th. However, Salido injured his right index finger after accidentally slamming his card door on it, making it necessary for him to pull out of the title defense against the 24-year-old Garcia.

If it were up to him who he would be facing on November 10th, Garcia, #1 WBO, #2 WBC, told RingTV “If it wasn’t Salido and I could pick my opponent, and it was something that could happen, I still think I would take Yuriorkis Gamboa…I would like to fight him more than anybody else to showcase my skills.”

What a mismatch that would be. Gamboa’s quick hands and huge power against the stiff as a board, terminator-like Mikey Garcia. It would be like matching Colonial war type of military during the George Washington against a modern machine gun and rocket-equipped military of today. Garcia wouldn’t stand a chance with his single shot and admire his work type of fighting style. Gamboa would really work Garcia over and likely take him out. Gamboa was able to dominate Salido, who I rate as a better fighter than Garcia by far. Just imagine what Gamboa would be able to do to him.

Garcia needs to be satisfied with just trying to get past the 31-year-old Cruz and not sit there and think about guys that are out of his league like Gamboa. If you look at the purely awful opposition that Garcia has fought pretty much his entire career, Cruz is easily the best guy that Garcia will have ever faced before. You could have Cruz fight every one of the guys that Garcia has fought before and I’d bet he’d have an unbeaten record just like Garcia. Granted, Cruz may not have nearly as many knockouts as Garcia, but he’d still likely have that 29-0 record to match him.
