Image: Deontay Wilder to fight on Khan-Molina undercard on 12/15By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated heavyweight Deontay Wilder (25-0, 25 KO’s) thus far is the only fight scheduled for the undercard of the Amir Khan vs. Carlos Molina fight card on December 15th at the Sports Arena, in Los Angeles, California.

The good news is that if the card stays this way, the 26-year-old Wilder will find himself on television in this Showtime televised fight in the United States. That would be a huge plus for the 6’7″ Wilder, because he’s got the talent to be one of the best heavyweights on the planet within a year and he needs to be seen by boxing fans.

It’s still unclear who Wilder will be facing at this point and how many rounds the fight will be scheduled for. However, we’re hearing a lot of whispers about Wilder facing a top fighter that will give him some rounds so that he can show his stuff to the American public.

Wilder’s handlers at Golden Boy Promotions haven’t let Wilder stretch out and show his real talent. They’ve been keeping him under wraps by putting him in with a lot of fodder that he’s been blowing away in one and two round knockouts for the past four years since he turned pro after capturing the bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics.

The reason why Golden Boy have been doing this is because Wilder had less than 20 amateur fights before taking part in the Olympics, and that’s not nearly enough compared to some of the pros who fought well into the 100s and some as high as 300 amateur fights. Wilder is far behind a lot of those guys in experience and this is why he’s being brought a long to pick up experience slowly. It’s not ideal, though, because in the amateur ranks many of the fighters are fairly good, but in the pros you got a lot of soft opposition that just don’t belong in the game.

Wilder could be the only bright side to the entire fight card because the Khan-Molina fight promises to be a horrible mismatch due to the small stature of Molina and his lack of power. He’s just being brought in to make Khan look better than he is, and he really doesn’t stand any kind of chance.

Hopefully, Golden Boy matches Wilder up with someone that will let him show his stuff to fans. His right hand is so good that it’s hard for anyone to be able to stand up to that kind of devastating power.
