Image: Yusaf Mack with the power and speed advantage over Carl Froch for November 17th fightBy Scott Gilfoid: While it’s painfully obvious that #6 IBF light heavyweight contender Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) is out of his class against IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) in their fight on November 17th, Mack does have a few things in his favor in this fight.

For one, he’s definitely the faster guy in terms of hand speed. He’s a notch above Froch in the hand speed department, which really isn’t saying a whole lot because a lot of guys are faster than Froch. He just doesn’t have a lot of hand speed and that’s okay. Froch just wasn’t blessed with hand speed like Mack.

Another area where Mack is superior to Froch is in the power department. Mack has a much better right hand that Froch and his left hook is superior as well. I wouldn’t expect too many of Froch’s British fans to understand this because few have likely seen Mack fight before because he’s fights in the United States, not England. I happen to have seen a lot of Mack’s fights so I can vouch for his power. Believe me, he’s a better puncher than Froch with either hand. Mack is just naturally heavy-handed.

The last category that Mack has going for him over Froch is that he’s the younger guy at 32 compared to Froch’s 35. I don’t know what it is but Mack is more like a fighter in his mid-20s rather than 32, because he’s really young and hasn’t started to lose hand speed a like a lot of fighters do when they hit their early 30s. He’s just young and he’s got that power and speed advantage that could give the slow-handed, slow-footed, 35-year-old Froch fits before this fight is over.

Where Mack does have a major problems is in the chin department. His chin isn’t that great, let’s be honest. If he gets hit with too many shots Froch on November 17th then he’s going to go. This is why Mack is got to put the leather on Froch early and aim for mandible to get him out of there before he’s hand the chance to land his own shots.
