Martinez, 37, came into the Chavez Jr. fight with a possible tear of his Meniscus cartilage in his right knee. During the 12th, Martinez aggravated it when he was knocked down by Chavez Jr. The knee will now have to be operated on and depending on the extent of the injuries, Martinez will likely be out of action for at least four months recovering from the surgery while he slowly heals. He’ll have to strengthen the knee afterwards before he’ll be ready to return to action.

The knee injury wasn’t the only injury that Martinez suffered in the fight. He broken his left hand badly and he suffered a cut on his scalp as well a cut above his left eye.

Chavez Jr’s suffered badly swelled up left eye and a swollen and bloody nose.

Martinez and Chavez Jr. could face each other action in the first quarter of 2013 at the Cowboys Stadium in Texas. Chavez Jr’s promoter Bob Arum wants the fight, as down Martinez’s promoter Lou Dibella and the other of the Cowboys Stadium Jerry Jones. Arum says that the Chavez Jr-Martinez fight was a huge success in terms of the box office and the early indications are that it sold well on pay per view.

The fight itself was as one-sided as a fight could be until the 12th when Chavez Jr. was able to knock Martinez down after hurting him with a hard right hand. Martinez was able to fight back, however, and finished the fight fighting Chavez Jr. to a stand still without holding on like normal fighters do after they get hurt.
