Image: Roach: Pacquiao has shown Marquez too much respectBy Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach has come up with three previous game plans for his fighter Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) in fights against Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) and each time the game plans have failed miserably with Pacquiao ending up getting out-boxed and dominated by Marquez.

Pacquiao has still won two of the three fights with their first fight ending up as a draw, but few boxing fans believe that Pacquiao deserved to win any of those fights. The judges keep giving Pacquiao decision wins over Marquez and boxing fans keep seeing it as a controversial decisions.

On December 8th, Pacquiao and Marquez will meet for the fourth and likely the final time when they square off at the MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is saying that this will be the last time that Pacquiao and Marquez fight, but I don’t believe it. If Pacquiao gets whipped by Marquez and if the fight brings in a lot loot on pay per view, you can bet that boxing fans will be seeing Marquez trotted out to face Pacquiao for a 5th time in early 2013.

Roach said this about Pacquiao’s game plan for the fourth Marquez fight as quoted by RingTV “We have fought Marquez three times using all kinds of strategy. It’s time to throw logic out the window and start over…Manny has shown too much respect in the past two fights. This time Manny will go after him like the first fight.”

This will be funny if Pacquiao tries to rush Marquez on December 8th. What Roach seems to forget is that Pacquiao was only successful in the 1st round of the first fight in 2004. After Pacquiao hurt Marquez and knocked him down three times in that round, Marquez solved Pacquiao’s bum rushing style and boxed his head off for the next 11 rounds. The fact that the judges scored it a draw was yet another controversial decision where Marquez appeared to dominate and yet was given the shaft.

If Roach remembered that fight as well as the 2008 fight, he’d already know that Pacquiao couldn’t do much by rushing Marquez because he kept getting clobbered. Pacquiao got staggered badly in the 2008 fight when he lowered his head and tried to storm the trenches against Marquez.
