Hunter: Ward would beat Froch and Kessler on the same night

Image: Hunter: Ward would beat Froch and Kessler on the same nightBy Scott Gilfoid: Virgil Hunter, the trainer for the talented WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s), believes that past Ward victims Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler haven’t given Ward the full credit he deserves for whipping them. Hunter believes that Ward would easily beat the two of them combined back to back if they would agree to step inside the ring with Ward one more time.

Of course, we’re probably never going to see Froch or Kessler face Ward ever again unfortunately. I think they realize they’ve met their match.

Hunter told RingTV “Carl Froch, he never shuts up. He’s said that if he would have fought ius the way he fought [Lucian] Bute, that he would have done the same thing to us…they’re just not giving us full credit…I think I could convince Andre to beat them both on the same night.”

I don’t see that as just talk from Hunter. I believe that Ward actually could beat both Froch and Kessler on the same night, because both of them were so badly dominated by Ward in the past. All Ward would have to do is knock off Froch first, and Kessler would be easy because I think he’d quit once he suffered a cut or two over his eyes. Keslser has got a lot of scar tissue around his eyes that Ward would likely reopen after a couple of rounds of landing his shots. Once the blood is flowing, Kessler would be a much different fighter in the full retreat mode.

Ward’s problem right now is he’s so damn good that there’s no one at 168 to compete with him right now, aside from Andre Dirrell, his close friend. I don’t think Dirrell and Ward will ever fight because they like each other so much. But that doesn’t mean that they won’t be able to coexist as the two two fighters in the division. Dirrell can snatch the IBF strap off Froch or the WBO belt and then Ward and Dirrell can dominate the division for years to come.
