Image: Deontay Wilder vs. Bryant Jennings: Main Events sends contract to Golden Boy for December 8th fightBy Scott Gilfoid: Responding to news that unbeaten heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder (25-0, 25 KO’s) is interested in taking on their fighter Bryant Jennings (15-0, 7 KO’s), Main Events, the promoters for the 28-year-old Jennings, has reportedly sent a contract over to Wilder’s promoters at Golden Boy to make a fight between them for December 8th.

Main Events said on their twitter “Deontay Wilder called out Bryant Jennings, so we’ve offered him a fight against Bryant in the main event on December 8th. Deontay Wilder, Oscar De La Hoya, it’s real. Made the offer to Golden Boy today. Waiting for their replay.”

Oh boy, I Jennings just opened himself up a can of whoop a** with this move. Wilder really wants this fight from the comments he made in his recent interview, and I can see him knocking Jennings out without any problems. Jennings is a decent fighter but the 6’7″ Wilder is on a much higher level in my estimation. He’s a special talent and could be on his way to a heavyweight title next year by the summer. Jennings is perfect for Wilder, because it gives Wilder a good chance to pick up a respectable scalp and improve along the way. Jennings is a lot better than the guys that Wilder has been fighting thus far, so potentially he might be able to give Wilder a few rounds before Wilder lowers the boom on him and knocks him cold.

Jennings had this to say on twitter tonight: “Dudes crazy, trying to call my bluff. You under me, don’t stand a chance, homes, You haven’t done enough.”

Well, Wilder just happens to be a 2008 Olympic bronze medalist with buckets full of talent. I’d says he’s more than enough to beat Jennings. Wilder has incredible power and speed and superb athleticism. I see him easily beating Jennings and then getting a top 15 ranking from this victory.

The 6’2″ Jennings has fought two decent opponents during his 2-year pro career, Siarhei Liakhovich and Maurice Byarm, and looked terrible against Byarm and good against a WAY past his best Liakhovich. It’s hard to say which Jennings is the real one – the one that looked good against a past his prime Liakhovich or the one that struggled and looked terrible against Byarm? I do know this: Jennings isn’t a puncher. He’s an arm puncher and an over-muscled one at that. His shots won’t have any affect on Wilder and the fight, it comes off, would be a match-up between Jennings’ combination punching and Wilder’s devastating right hand bombs and left hooks. I don’t think Jennings is going to be able to take Wilder’s power for 10 to 12 rounds. Heck, I don’t see Jennings being able to take Wilder’s power for even four rounds. Wilder hits too hard and Jennings is too easy to hit.

I’m not sure if Golden Boy Promotions, the promoters for Wilder, will let this fight happen. Wilder is still really green and this would be a big step up from the guys that he’s been facing. Do I think he’s ready? Yes, but Golden Boy has spoon feeding him and I doubt they’ll stop now.
