However, the 29-year-old Price still says he won’t be ready to fight one of the Klitschkos for another 1 1/2 years. In other words, not until Vitali is likely long retired and the 36-year-old Wladimir Klitschko is almost 38.

Price told Sky Sports News “If I got that call to fight VItali Klitschko tomorrow we’d take it, but it’s not about that. My career is not about the Klitschkos. It’s about doing the right thing at the right time.”

The right thing at the right time? Where have I heard that before? That seems like something Amir Khan has said in the past. It sure seems like code for meaning that Price won’t be attempting to fight the Klitschkos until Vitali is retired and Wladimir is almost 40. That’s not exactly sporting, is it? Why doesn’t Price want to fight the Klitschkos now? He’s old enough, isn’t he? Heck, Price is almost 30-years-old, so what’s the hang up? When Wladimir Klitschko was 29, he’d already won the IBF and WBO heavyweight titles. What’s the hold up with Price? Why isn’t he facing top tier opposition? When Vitali was 28, he held the WBO heavyweight title. why is Price being brought along so slowly? Is he waiting out the Klitschkos until they either retire or get too old to fight?

Price will be fighting 40-year-old Audley Harrison (28-5, 21 KO’s) on October 13th at the Echo Arena, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom. I’m not exactly excited about that fight because Harrison hasn’t had much success in many, many years. It just seems like another sick mismatch with Price fighting a guy that has little more than a puncher’s chance.

I think Price’s promoter is taking a huge risk in taking him along so slowly, because Price could end up never winning a title if he waits too long. The 6’8″ Price could start suffering injuries in his 30s as he ages. Besides that there are other heavyweight prospects that are moving up in the division and they could shoot past Price and take the heavyweight title without Price even getting a shot. He’ll have missed his chance one the talented Deontay Wilder is up to speed and knocking everyone out in the heavyweight division.
