By Marcus Stewart: Ricky Burns proved last Saturday night exactly why he’s a world champion after he completely destroyed the tough Englishman Kevin Mitchell by a 4th round stoppage. A fight between him and Demarco could be very interesting now, due to the fact that Demarco won his last fight in the space of a minute whereby he landed a straight right hand to his opponent’s chin which ultimately ended the bout.
Ricky Burns Vs Antonio Demarco is one to hype up, but Adrien Broner? To even put him into this category of elite lightweights is a complete joke.
Adrien Broner is seen by some as the next best thing and many have compared him to Floyd Mayweather Jnr. I don’t understand the hype, considering the fact that he hasn’t fought anyone that’s of a high calibre and his record has generally been massaged so that he’s seen as some sort of force, when he’s not. Ricky Burns is a technically gifted boxer with great power and many would agree with me in saying that he would completely school the overrated Broner if they were to square off in the ring.
In my eyes Brandon Rios and Adrien Broner would have no chance against Burns. Brandon Rios because he’s ridiculously one dimensional and easy to hit. Adrien Broner because he has a lack of movement and if you have the courage to try to hit him most times the punches will land because he’s a more easy target than people think. These two Americans have been described as the future of boxing; however I believe that they are anything but that.
Ricky Burns is, at this moment in time, the best lightweight in the world. A fight with Demarco would make sense as it’s between two hard punching fighters, but a fight with Broner makes no sense whatsoever as it would be one of the most one sided fights this year and I wouldn’t be surprised if Burns was to take Broner out either.
