Wladimir vs. Wach in November

Image: Wladimir vs. Wach in NovemberBy Allan Fox: The heavyweight division could really use some of the younger heavyweights like David Price, Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder to step up and challenge IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitachko (58-3, 51 KO’s) to finally provide a quality opponent for him that has a chance to beat him.

Sadly, the mismatches will continue for the 36-year-old Wladimir, as he’s reportedly going to be fighting #4 WBC Mariusz Wach (27-0, 15 KO’s) in November. The 6’7″ 247 pound Wach has the size and the right hand power to stop Wladimir in theory, but in reality this is just another terrible mismatch for Wladimir. Wach doesn’t have hand speed, doesn’t have a jab, doesn’t a left hand, and doesn’t have any defense. He’s like a slightly better version of Tye Fields and it’s going to be sickeningly for Wladimir to crush the 32-year-old Wach. Wladimir can pick how he wants to beat him because he’s got the jab and the power to either outbox Wach with ease or blast him out with a big right hand.

I really think this fight is even worse than Wladimir’s recent mismatches against Jean Marc Mormeck, Tony Thompson, David Haye, Samuel Peter, Eddie Chambers, Ruslan Chagaev and Hasim Rahman. Wach is worse than all those fighters in my view.

It would be great if Wach had actually fought someone to deserve a title shot against Wladimir, but he hasn’t. Here are Wach’s best opponents that he’s faced in his seven year pro career:

Galen Brown
Kevin McBride
Tye Fields
Jason Gavern
Christian Hammer

This is all second tier opposition and there’s not one contender among the bunch of them. I know the World Boxing Council has really done Wach a huge favor by ranking him at number #4, but Wladimir needs to be a little more selective than this because Wach is someone that would likely get drilled out by most of the top contenders in the heavyweight division.

Although the Wladimir vs. Wach hasn’t been announced, Wach has been saying the fight is going to happen and he thinks he can win. He can’t. It’s just disappointing that the Klitschkos are facing such weak opposition like this. Wladimir’s brother WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko is facing unproven Manuel Charr, who like Wach, has fought nothing but 2nd tier opposition his entire career and is going to be destroyed by Vitali in September.
