Wach too slow for Wladimir

Image: Wach too slow for WladimirBy Dan Ambrose: It’s looking like unbeaten #4 WBC heavyweight contender Marciusz Wach (27-0, 15 KO’s) will be the next opponent for IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (58-3, 51 KO’s) in December in Europe. The Polish boxing fans and new organizations are getting excited about the prospect of the big 6’7″ Wach getting a crack at Wladimir’s three world titles.

However, for fans that have had the opportunity to see the 32-year-old Wach fight in the past, this isn’t fight to get really excited about. It’s another one of Wladimir’s mismatches, perhaps a little worse than his recent mismatches against Tony Thompson and Jean-Marc Mormeck. Those fighters had some skills and were decent fighters but no anywhere near Wladimir’s class. Wach has never even faced a top tier contender before, and that’s usually what you’re looking for when evaluating whether a contender has a chance against someone like Wladimir Klitschko. It should be a prerequisite? for a contender to at least have fought one contender to show whether they deserve a title shot in order to avoid having a mismatch take place between an inexperienced novice and a world champion.

Here’s the best fighters that Wach has fought during his seven year pro career:

Tye Fields
Jason Gavern
Kevin McBride
Galen Brown
Julius Long

I’m sorry but those are all 2nd tier fighters and not one of them even being close to contender status. It’s just seems wrong that Wach will be able to get a title shot without having faced anyone good that could possibly weed him out of a title shot.

Wach does have decent power with his right hand, but he’s so slow of hand and foot that he has virtually no chance of delivering his payload right hand against a fighter like Wladimir. Wach also doesn’t have a good jab, and he would need one in a fight against Wladimir if he wanted to keep from getting jabbed silly all night long from the outside. Wladimir isn’t exactly courageous when facing guys with power, so it’s possible he may elect to jab Wach from the outside all night. If Wladimir does this, Wach won’t have a chance at landing any of his right hands and he’ll only end up getting his eyes swollen up, his face cut and then knocked out after he’s badly bleeding.
