It seems that the 24-year-old Gesta feels he’s ready to challenge for a world title and the 25-year-old Vazquez is the one that he wants.

Gesta’s trainer Vicent Parra told RingTV that Top Rank is working on putting a fight together between Gesta, #6 WBA, #8 IBF, and Vazquez for November on one of the following dates: 3, 10 or 17. November 10th might be the date for the fight, because Top Rank already has a pay per view date open during that time after Manny Pacquiao moved from date to fight on December 1st instead. Instead of scrapping the date, Top Rank has decided to keep it and still intends on it being a PPV card.

They’re going to have to find a suitable main event for that fight card because Gesta vs. Vazquez isn’t going to get the job done. I don’t even see that as a co-main event type fight. It’s a number #3 fight in my view, but not good enough as co-main event, because Gesta isn’t well known in the United States among casual boxing fans and Vazquez is in the same boat.

If Bob Arum allows Gesta to take the fight with Vazquez I think he may end up being sorry that he did this, as Gesta doesn’t look nearly good enough to compete with a wily veteran like Vazquez, and he could end up being boxed silly by Vazquez. Manuel Perez had Gesta looking like a punching bag last year in September, and although Perez lost that fight, the decision was incredibly controversial. To me, the decision was as controversial as the Richard Abril vs. Brandon Rios fight.

Gesta was getting tagged all night long by Perez, and missing his own shots. If Perez, a fringe contender, was able to do that to Gesta just imagine what a skilled defensive artist like Vazquez would do to him.
