Image: Hatton's agent says comeback rumors are speculation by the mediaBy William Mackay: Earlier today a news gossip story broke out about former two division world champion Ricky Hatton supposedly making a comeback starting in November. However, Hatton’s agent Paul Speak said it’s nothing more than speculation from the media.

Speak told Sky Sports News “People are speculating but he [Hatton] is just keeping fit and has not made any decision on a comeback. There’s no story.”

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Hatton won’t be coming back in the near future. He could always make announcement at any time and perhaps doesn’t want the media to jump the gun before he officially makes his decision. However, the fact that he’s shooting down the rumors could suggest that he’s not entirely convinced about whether he’ll get back in the ring.

It’s understandable why boxing fans might think Hatton is coming back, because he’s lost a massive amount of weight and appears like he’s close to fighting shape. However, Hatton’s agent is saying that Hatton is just taking better care of himself now.

Hatton gained a ton of weight after his 2nd round TKO loss to Manny Pacquiao in 2009. Although Hatton has done this before in the past in between fights, he never took an extended period of time off between bouts. The Pacquiao fight really affected him in a big way, as he wasn’t just beaten by the Filipino, he was annihilated. It wasn’t even close.

There’s the belief going around that Hatton will fight WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi next if he does decide to come out of retirement. Malignaggi can’t punch, he holds a major title, and he’s already been stopped by Hatton in the past in an 11th round TKO loss in 2008. Malignaggi might be a safe fight for a rusty Hatton if he does decide to come back. As for now, he’s still officially retired.
