Angulo, 30, was recently released by the the El Centro Detention Center in El Centro, California for an immigration problem after having allowed his visa to expire and had overstayed his visit to the United States.

It’s been 9 months since Angulo last fought when he was stopped by James Kirkland in the 6th round last November.

Angulo’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions told RingTV “We’ll get him a tune-up as early as next month if he’s ready to go and then his next fight will be against a top contender, a who will push his limits.”

If Angulo is going to be successful he’s going to have to pace himself a little better because he he gassed out badly in his last fight against James Kirkland after trying to score a 1st round knockout. Angulo was never able to catch a second wind, and Kirkland battered him from the 2nd round until halting him in the 6th. Angulo needs to learn a lesson from that fight to take his time and not go all out once he has someone hurt.

There’s too much danger for him having another Kirkland-type fight if he tries to unload on someone in the future the way he did with Kirkland. Angulo has really heavy hands and he doesn’t really need to go all out once he has someone hurt. If he had taken things slow with Kirkland he might have taken him out in the later rounds from an accumulation of punishment. Instead, Angulo got ahead of himself and used up all his energy trying to score a knockout.

Some of the top boxers might feel that Kirkland created a blueprint in how to beat Angulo by forcing him to fight at a fast pace. You can expect to see other fighters making Angulo fight hard to see if he’ll fade. Angulo also has problems with fighters that use movement. Kermit Cintron was able to defeat Angulo in 2009 by a 12 round decision simply by using his jab and constantly circling the ring. The slow-footed Angulo was unable to cut off the ring on Cintron and ended up getting outpointed.
