Image: George Groves becoming one of the most dangerous fighters in the super middleweight divisionBy Tom Graves: The British and Commonwealth super middleweight titleholder ‘Saint’ George Groves is currently 15-0 with 12 wins by KO, the 24 year old from Hammersmith recently knocked out tough young Mexican, Francisco Sierra with a combination of punches which can best be described as brutal and bone chilling.

Agreed Sierra is not the most skilful pugilist in the super-middle weight division, which has a historical reputation for legendary boxers throughout the years such as fellow countrymen Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Joe Calzaghe and reigning IBF champion Carl Froch. Not to mention, current worldwide stars such as Andre Ward, Arthur Abraham and Andre Dirrell in and around the very top.

Possible future match ups and level of competition aside, Groves possess the tools to become one of the best super middleweights of the next few years, with a solid amateur background winning 66 wins out of 76 fights and 40 by KO, a talented and established trainer and manager behind him by the name of Adam Booth, seemingly possessing the punching power of a 12stone version of Groves’ stable mate David Haye and honing impressive technical boxing skills will in my opinion prove to progress him from a young British talent to a very dangerous fighter in such an exciting division.

Far from the finished article, as I’m sure he would agree himself, soon George Groves will be a highly regarded name making big noise in a big division. So I look forward to when the ‘Saint’ will go marching straight to the top of the super middleweights in the near future.
