Fury: Adamek is avoiding me

Image: Fury: Adamek is avoiding meBy William Mackay: Undefeated former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s) feels that former two time world champion Tomasz Adamek (46-2, 28 KO’s) is avoiding a fight with him for some reason.

A frustrated Fury said to Britishboxers.co.uk “You got guys like Adamek avoiding the fight.”

This is kind of interesting that Fury is giving Adamek the label of ducking him when a lot of boxing fans think that Fury ducked a fight against unbeaten David Price recently. Fury was in a position to where he would have had to defend his British and Commonwealth titles again Price, but instead of fighting him, Fury vacated his two titles. Since then, Fury has been fighting older heavyweights like 41-year-old Martin Rogan and 38-year-old Vinny Maddalone.

Another heavyweight that has called Fury out recently is unbeaten prospect Deontay Wilder (24-0, 24 KO’s), who said he sees Fury as a coward type heavyweight. Fury hasn’t shown any interest in fighting Wilder. Fury’s fans give the reason for him not fighting Wilder because Wilder isn’t ranked in the top 15.

That excuse would hold some water had Fury not finished fighting two unranked fighters in Rogan and Maddalone. Although Wilder isn’t ranked either in the top 15, you’d have to consider him a much more appealing fight than Fury’s bouts against Rogan and Maddalone. If Fury fought and beat Wilder, he’d get a lot of attention from boxing fans. No one was congratulating Fury for beating Rogan and Maddalone, because they’ve both been beaten more than once and don’t have the same kind of power that Wilder has going for him.

Fury is hoping to get a fight against Ruslan Chagaev in November. It’s still unclear if the fight can be made but Fury sure sounds confident that it will be.
