Deontay Wilder: There’s no other heavyweight that’s near my level

Image: Deontay Wilder: There's no other heavyweight that's near my levelBy Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated heavyweight prospect Deontay Wilder (24-0, 24 KO’s) has set a date for next year for him to get the titles of the Klitschkos brothers one or another. The 6’7″ Wilder sees the Ukrainian brothers gladly giving up their belts in 2013.

Speaking with Boxingopinion1.blogspot.com, Wilder said “2013 and long live the king. The Klitschkos will give that belt up smiling knowing that is has been put in great hands.”

I think it might be difficult for Wilder to get a shot at either of the Klitschkos in 2013. WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko might be retired by then, but if not, he’s probably not going to willingly agree to a fight against the powerful Wilder. If he’s not even willing to fight David Haye then how in the heck is going to agree to fight a much more dangerous puncher in Wilder? I think Wilder would have to become Vitali’s mandatory challenger before he’d get a shot against him, and even then I think Wilder still will never get that fight.

It’s a great fight for Vitali, because he’s wanted to fight Lennox Lewis again all these years. Well, I rate Wilder’s right hand as a much bigger weapon than Lewis’ right, so if Vitali wanted to wow boxing fans he should agree to fight Wilder. He probably won’t, though. The same for Wladimir. He’s too busy fighting 40-year-old heavyweights and inexperienced guys like Mariusz Wach to agree to fight someone like Wilder. It would only take one punch from Wilder to KO Wladimir due to his questionable chin.

Wilder said “There’s no other heavyweight that’s near my level. Not being arrogant or cocky, just expressing my opinion.”

I totally agree. There isn’t anyone on Wilder’s level right now. All the top heavyweights are flawed and the prospects don’t measure up to him either.

This is all there really is in the heavyweight division

Wladimir Klitschko
Vitali Klitschko
Kubrat Pulev
Denis Boytsov
Alexander Povetkin
Ruslan Chagaev
Alexander Dimitrenko
Tyson Fury
David Price
Seth Mitchell
Tony Thompson
Chris Arreola
David Haye
Dereck Chisora

None of those guys are on Wilder’s level, because they don’t have the power, speed or athleticism that he has.
