Kim said on his twitter that the Moreno-Mares fight is “Seriously being discussed.”

That would be a great fight if it can be made. Mares, like WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, wants to fight IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire but he’s had no luck in luring Donaire into the ring to fight him.

Mares, 26, defeated Eric Morel by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision last April to claim the WBC super bantamweight title in an impressive victory. Mares also has wins over Vic Darchinyan and Joseph Agbeko. Mares easily beat Agbeko in their rematch last December, winning by a one-sided 12 round decision.

Moreno, 27, also has a victory over Darchinyan, beating him easily by a 12 round unanimous decision last December. The southpaw Moreno, 5’6″, did a lot better job against Darchinyan compared to Mares. However, styles make fights and Mares could have the style to beat Moreno if he can pressure him enough.

The Panamanian Moreno had a lot of problems against pressure fighter Nehomar Cermeno in their two fights in 2010. Although Moreno won both fights by 12 round split decisions, he had a ton of problems dealing with Cermeno’s relentless attacks. Mares is a level above Cermeno in talent and that could be enough for Mares to get the win over Moreno if the fight gets made. Morenko would still have a 2 inch height advantage and a 3 1/2 reach advantage that Mares would somehow have to get past for him to win.
