Image: Warren: Froch is lucky he didn't get disqualified against ButeBy Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Frank Warren feels that Carl Froch was lucky not to have been disqualified in his fight against IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute last Saturday night in Nottingham when Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn ran out into the ring while the fight was still underway in the 5th round.

Warren said in his column at Frankwarren.com “Froch’s moment could have been wrecked by his promoter Eddie Hearn who stormed into the ring to celebrate thinking that the referee had waived the fight off in the 5th round when really he was giving an eight count. That is a disqualification under the IBF rules, but the referee didn’t see Fast Eddie. He was lucky that Bute’s management didn’t go to the rule book.”

“Fast Eddie,” I love that. That was priceless. I totally agree with Mr. Warren, and I’ve been saying that all a long. I think Froch is MIGHTY lucky he was disqualified because when one of your team comes dashing out into the ring while the fight is still underway, that’s a disqualification. I mean, technically Froch should have lost that fight and that’s what I believe. I just wish the referee had been a little more observant and turned his back when “Fast Eddie” came into the ring to give Froch a big bear hug from behind while the fight was still technically underway. But it was kind of hilarious to see Hearn turn around and see that Bute was only being given a standing eight count instead of the fight being waived off. Hearn then sprinted out of the ring at top speed. After he left the ring, Bute’s corner person entered the ring and walked up to the referee to have the fight stopped.

I still don’t know why Bute’s team didn’t made a big production about Hearn entering the ring. They should have been screaming bloody murder about this because he’d have a good chance of getting the win reversed on appeal.
