Image: Victor Ortiz vs. Saul Alvarez: It’s a make or break fight for both boxersBy Dominic Sauboorah: Unbeaten WBC super welterweight champion Saul Alvarez has his toughest test to date when he takes on the hard hitting Victor Ortiz at the MGM grand on September 15th.

The young Mexican champion has cherry picked his last few opponents but now, for the first time, he faces a stern opponent who isn’t that much older than him. Both fighters have great hand speed, immense punching power and love a tear up. It can only make for a great fight.

Saul Alvarez has shown to be the next great Mexican boxer as he’s still undefeated and is knocking guys out left right and centre. His two best wins so far, in my eyes, were against Carlos Baldomir, when he knocked him out cold, and Ryan Rhodes, who was a lot bigger than him and a lot more experienced. Nevertheless Alvarez has been accused of fighting opponents who have been either too old or simply past their prime; however his next opponent is neither of the two.

Victor Ortiz is a former WBC welterweight champion. He managed to gain the prestigious belt after beating the undefeated Andre Berto by unanimous decision in what was seen as the best win of his career. He was the underdog prior to the fight, but nevertheless managed to defy the odds and ended up coming out on top. Despite the fact that he’s coming off of a loss to Floyd Mayweather his upcoming bout with Josesito Lopez this Saturday should allow him to get rid of any ring rust before his bout with Saul Alvarez. Victor Ortiz will be at a natural disadvantage against Alvarez however, due to the fact that this will be his first time fighting at 154 lb so many will question if he will be able to adjust to the step up in weight. Nevertheless Ortiz came into the ring against Mayweather weighing around 160 lb and was still able to show good hand speed and punching power.

Both fighters have tremendous credentials. Both fighters love an all out war. Both fighters have a do or die attitude. This could make or break each fighter’s boxing career. Can Saul Alvarez defend his super welterweight title again and finally prove to his critics that he is the real deal or can Victor Ortiz defy the odds once more and become a two time world champion. At the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on September 15th, Saul Alvarez takes on Victor Ortiz. I honestly can’t wait.
