Image: The WBO judges pick Pacquiao over Bradley, but nothing is changed - Pacquiao still lostBy Chris Williams: I’ve never seen anything as ridicuous as the five member panel of judges that the WBO put together to review the Manny Pacquiao-Tim Bradley fight to pick a winner. As you would expect, they chose Pacquiao, the big money maker. Did you think it would be otherwise? I never for a minute expected those judges to pick Bradley. Who’s the star here? I’m sure the judges weren’t biased in any way, but when you’re talking about a star against a non-star, I think it’s difficult to resist picking the star.

But what really gripes is the waste of time and effort put into this. Bradley himself thinks all of this is being done because he wasn’t supposed to beat boxing’s money fighter, and by doing so he caused a lot of people to lose money. Of course, there’s also the hero aspect involved.

Pacquiao is a hero to a lot of boxing fans, many of which who depend on him for their own fragile self esteem. That’s the whole trap with idol worship. When the fighter or person is brought down to earth for whatever reason, fans don’t want to believe it. They resist reality and go nuts trying to make excuses for what happened.

I really understand why the WBO put forth the effort to review the Pacquiao-Bradley fight if it doesn’t change anything. If they can’t erase Pacquiao’s loss or put an asterisk next to it, then why do it? It’s a joke in my view.

All of this reminds me of the flak that Roger Maris took when he broke Babe Ruth’s single season home run record. There were a lot of people that were angry about it and they wanted an asterisk put next to Maris’ record to indicate that he did it while playing in more games than Ruth. People didn’t want to give Maris credit for having beaten the Babe’s record.

I see a lot of people angry about seeing Pacquiao brought down. I don’t see why anyone would be upset. It already should have happened in Pacquiao’s fight before the Bradley one against Juan Manuel Marquez. Pacquiao won a very questionable decision and I didn’t see people getting all broken up about it. Pacquiao dodged a bullet and the fight told you somethings not right with Pacquiao. He’s slipping, and you can expect even worse performances in the future. You don’t win fights by doing zero for 2 1/2 minutes of every round and then trying to steal it in the last seconds of the round. That’s what old fighters like to do when they no longer have the youthful energy to fight hard for three minutes of every round. The three judges obviously saw what I saw, and gave it to Bradley.
