Haye and Chisora will be fighting for the WBA Intercontinental heavyweight title in their fight at Upton Park.

Both should happy they’re getting even this, because the WBC, EBU+ and the British Boxing Board of Control are not in favor of this fight taking place. It’s nice that the WBA approves of the fight, because it is actually a good fight compared to a lot of the heavyweight bouts boxing fans are having to sit through nowadays because of tendency of promoters not wanting to risk putting their fighters in competitive bouts.

Chisora is coming into the fight with Haye with a kind of bad guy image because of his behavior before and after his fight with WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko last February. It’s a miracle that Chisora got the fight at all given his low ranking at the fight and his poor success in recent fights. But Chisora fought surprisingly well against the injured Vitali, who tore up his left shoulder in the 2nd round after hitting Chisora with a left hook to the head. Vitali fought the remainder of the way only using his right hand and he won quite easily. Chisora did a good job of pressuring him, but that’s about all he did. Chisora’s accuracy was poor in the fight.

Haye been on a long extended vacation since being embarrassed by Vitali’s brother IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko last year in July. Haye went into retirement after that fight after initially asking and being turned down for a rematch. Haye was attempting to get a fight against Vitali recently, but he showed no interest in facing him. As such, Haye has had to settle for facing Chisora.
