Image: Erislandy Lara-Freddy Hernandez on June 30th in Indio, CABy Reynaldo Sanchez: The battle Lara-Hernández was signed and they will face on June 30th, reported by the team of the Cuban Lara. The super welterweight Cuban #1 contender in the World Boxing Council (WBC) Erislandy “The Gold of Guantánamo” Lara 16-1-1 (11 KO’s), prepares to face the Mexican Freddy “The Rail” Hernández 30-2-0 (20 KO’s) in a scheduled ten round bout on June 30th at the Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California.

The Lara-Hernández fight will be on the same card where super welterweight and current world champion IBF, Cornelio “K9” Bundrage will defend his title against Cory Spink. Lara comes the fight off of a victory over Ronald Hearns in his last fight just in 2:34 seconds of the first round on April 20th in Biloxi. Mississippi, by an impressive KO.

In his last fight, Hernanz defeated Luis Collazo by a 10 round unanimous decision in October 2011. In February 2010, Hernandez destroyed Damarcus Corley in five rounds. Hernandez was unexpectedly beaten by Andre Berto by KO in the first round in November 2010. Nevertheless, he returned in October, 2011 defeating Collazo.

“The important thing is to keep Lara active. Against Hearns, he was only in the ring one round. We believe that defeating Hernández, Lara will be ready to get a title shot against any champ out there” Lara’s manager Luis DeCubas Jr. said to us.

In this event, Cornelio “K9” Bundrage fights Cory Spinks. If Bundrage beats Spinks and Lara defeats the Mexican Hernandez, we can see a Lara-Bundrage a possible figh before the end of 2012.

Lara opened his Trainings Camp along with his trainer Ronnie Shields and Eduard Jackson in the Savannah GYM in Texas, immediately after the fight Lara-Hearns. The Cuban joined to the GYM to be ready to fight, and said us to be focused and ready to defeat Hernández.

This battle will be televised by Showtime on June 30th, and this will be an enormous opportunity for Lara to show us that he is ready for most important challenges. Hernandez is a former welterweight title contender, and represents a big challenge for Lara and we think that in spite of the physical advantages of the Mexican, the superiority of the WBC #1 challenger will end up by being imposed.
