The rematch would be fulfilling the rematch clause that Froch and Bute had in their contract.

Bedard told VAT Sports television “A victory for Lucian Bute before Christmas would be the ideal gift for the holidays for Canadians. We want the Froch rematch to be held in Montreal.”

There had been talk of the rematch possibly taking place in Bute’s native Romania in front of a huge crowd of 50,000 fans. However, it looks like Bute and his promoter are opting to make the rematch in his new adopted country of Canada. Bute reportedly is favor of the fight taking place in Montreal rather than Romania.

Bute was stopped in the 5th round by Carl Froch recently last month on May 26th in Nottingham, UK. Bute looked ill prepared for the fight mentally, and made a huge mistake by choosing to fight Froch off the ropes rather than in his old hit and run style that Bute previously used to beat guys like Sakio Bika and Alejandro Berrio. By fighting in a stationary manner, Bute made things easy for the slow-footed Froch to land his slower shots, because he didn’t have to chase Bute down in order to land. Bute later said that he could have moved for 12 rounds and made it difficult for Froch to land, but he chose to fight off the ropes. Bute still can’t understand why he chose to fight in this manner because it clearly wasn’t working in the first couple of rounds and he needed to make some adjustments.

Froch is hoping to get a rematch with Mikkel Kessler in the next three to four months before he takes the fight against Bute. If Froch loses to Kessler, then it will be Kessler that will be facing Bute, not Froch.
