From it’s origins, this sport has coexisted with the stigma of the fraud, illegality, corruption and the trick. 30 years ago all that today we observe was less well-known, the technological advances were not allowing that the information should flow, similar to this epoch.
Now this monster with thousand heads called the Internet came to support the expansion of the boxing. But also, it turned into a “Blade of Damocles”. The fans, who with his PPV’s buy support this sport, they have within reach of their hands news and information, that in other times, they were handled only by privileged people. Youtube, Twitter, Facebook and the thousands of digital portals, opened the door for boxing fans that for many years was closed with which, the outrages and cloudy handling to which they driving this sport, is in front of thousands and that might affect the Promoters’ and TV Channels business.
Then, after Organizations apparitions as WBO and IBF to reach 4th organizations, along with the oldies WBA and WBC; Plus the PPV’s and the TV such as HBO and Showtime. They altered everything that we knew, to turn it into a show in which the Promoters and TV channels interests, they prevail over the rules of this Organizations.
Actually, the rankings of every organization have little or no value. Those who I feel directly negotiate title fights are HBO and Showtime. These TV companies offer to the Promoters broadcasting dates and ask for specific names, over what it should be regulated in the Organizations, and the Promoters to don’t lose all this benefits. They wash their hands with what the Organizations should say about fights and/or rankings. And the worst thing is that the designation of the judges and referees for a WBA title fight inside United States for example, the Commissions of every State choose them.
Every State in U.S, has a Commission, their directors haven’t dependency with any World Boxing Organizations. And not only this, but his rights and obligations are out of the reach of another body that isn’t The State Government, and obviously the income that generated for these events; go into the cash flow of every Commission in individual form, since a National Commission doesn’t exist in USA.
We can say that the situation of the States Commissions, it’s similar to what happens with the World Boxing Organizations WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF. Each Organizations works individually; without heredity of what does or affects to others. We believe that when these Organizations should begin it to converge on a possible unification, and the creation of a solely Organization that should agglutinates the actually fourth that now exist. There, they will begin to recover the power and credibility that now they have lost.
Also, the impact of the sports medicine bring to this sport athletes that some of them think, dance in the illegality. The sports medicine in the past could not be used by boxers with few incomes. Then, the astronomical numbers of money that the boxers receive in this epoch, it liberated another demon that touch big names like Mosley, Vargas, Jones Jr, Toney and recently to Berto and Peterson. Even some boxing fans think that at present, they all are guilty or suspicious of using or using in the past, some type of illegal drugs to enhance his performances.
This plague cannot be prosecuted by rigorousness; the methods that States Commissions utilize in USA are out of date or obsolete. The advances to detect the doping are there, the bad news is that they are excessively expensive, and only some fights for the money that they would generate can have access to them.
We are almost sure that the solution is in only one word. “UNIFICATION;” Yes, this is the key, in my opinion; An Organizations must be created that unifies the current ones and turns into the Governor. On the other hand, in USA and other countries around the world as United Kingdom, Germany, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Argentina, Philippines, Japan and all the countries where the boxing is an important sport, there must be created a National Commission that handle the targets of the boxing.
When the federal governments finally mediates in this matter, surely already it will be too late. Really now they must do these changes. Absurd decisions, tidy fights, doping, classifications for expediencies, protections, and any other of a lot of evil that bother this discipline, little by little would go being eliminated. Then, we will see more interesting fights, competitively and especially, to the “Real World Champions” … … Dreams, just dreams.
