Image: Who´s next for Cotto?By Gerardo Granados: After losing his WBA light middleweight belt against Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto needs to plan his career to regain a world title soon. Cotto could choose to pick an easy fight next but it might not be what his fans would like to see. Against Mayweather he proved to be in a very good shape and gave hell to Floyd who won the fight but struggled more than many boxing experts predicted.

Miguel has a title fight record of W17(14)-L3(2) and has eleven years as a prize fighter so he might not have too many fights left inside him. Cotto wont become a step stone for the newcomers as former multiple division champion Shane Mosley is, who has been awarded the opportunity to dispute a world title after as series of poor and disappointing performances.

If Cotto gets back in the ring he should consider to engage against a worthy opponent or better stay inactive. Maybe Miguel could take on WBA regular champion Austin Trout who defends his belt next June 2nd against Delvin Rodriguez; Trout is crafty and could give Cotto trouble but this might not be a profitable fight for Miguel. Other viable fight for him would be veteran IBF champion Cornelious Bundrage who defends his belt against Cory Spinks next July 28th; although Bundrage might be tailor made for Cotto.

Canelo Alvarez WBC light middleweight champion might be a good choice for Cotto.

What about Erislandy Lara? Would Cotto give an opportunity to Erislandy and risk to lose in a low profit fight? Maybe Cotto could move up to middleweight against the IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale to try his fourth division championship or take on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr WBC middleweight champion but Julio could be too big in size for Cotto. Or is it possible a rematch against Mayweather? Nah the outcome would be the same.

First, Miguel needs to take a good rest and then decide what is it he is going to do next, but what ever he is up to he better pick a worthy opponent next because we the boxing fans deserve to see him fight against the best. As for me I believe Cotto should try his fourth division championship against Daniel Geale but what do the reader thinks would be the better decision for Cotto.
