Froch: I’m dangerous and hungry

Image: Froch: I’m dangerous and hungryBy Scott Gilfoid: Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s luck turned sour recently when he was spanked by WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward in the Super Six tournament finals. The fact that Froch even made it to the finals is a minor miracles because two fighters that appeared to have his numbers – Andre Dirrell and Mikkel Kessler – had to bow out of the tourney due to serious injuries sustained in prior bouts.

As such, Froch pretty much stumbled into the tourney off of wins over an old Glen Johnson, a very, very, very questionable decision over Dirrell and of course a dominating win over an already beaten Arthur Abraham.

On Saturday night Froch will be facing IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute and things don’t look good for Froch as of now. I mean, technically Froch has a chance to win, but in the real world he doesn’t have much of a chance in practical terms. Bute is a superior fighter, and it’s not going to be easy for Froch to do much against him. If he stays on the outside, Bute, with his boxing ability, will pick Froch apart with ease. If Froch comes at Bute at close range, Froch will either run into a fight ending body shot or Bute will simply back away and avoid Froch’s attacks.

Froch said to thisisnottingham.co.uk “Who has he beaten and what has he done? He’s not fought anyone at my level in his whole career…But we will find out how good he is on May 26, because he’s facing The Cobra, who’s one the comeback trail. I’m very dangerous and I’m very hungry.”

I have no doubt that Froch is hungry. If he loses this fight it could changes his position in the rankings and he might become a gate keeper type fighter rather than a championship caliber guy. Froch has all those people who will be at the Nottingham Arena supporting him on Saturday, such as his girlfriend for one, his friends, and family members. That’s a lot of pressure. Froch has the hometown advantage but that’s a cross to bear and may not be any kind of advantage for Froch.
