Froch demolishes Bute in 5 but who next?

Image: Froch demolishes Bute in 5 but who next?By Pete Simpson: As you will all have seen, Carl Froch produced one of the performances of his career to outclass, out think, out brawl and out box the former world super middleweight champion Lucian Bute on Saturday night in Nottingham.

From the opening bell it looked as though Carl, who after the fight revealed that he would have retired after a loss to Bute, really believed that this was a make or break fight for him and his career and produced a storming performance to effectively end Bute’s chances of victory by the middle of the 3rd round.

I’m not going to go into a blow by blow account of the contest in this article but for anyone who didn’t see the fight (I urge you to watch his scintillating performance at once) it took Froch less than 2 rounds to establish his dominance, beat Bute to the punch at will, negate his counter attacking boxing ability with great footwork and head movement and simply knocked the fight out of him with a series of fierce hooks and right hands.

So after sticking one up to the bookmakers and many so called boxing experts, what should Carl do next?

After 8 consecutive world title fights, I would like to see him take a few months off for a well deserved rest, then take on the winner of the Stieglitz – Abraham bout which I think he would win at a canter in his home town of Nottingham. He would then undoubtedly want to seek redemption by beating Kessler and this would be a huge draw in a big UK arena and a fight both boxers would be interested in.

At this stage, and after 2 great wins in my opinion, Carl would be almost 36 and being the warrior he is I could see him looking for a return with Ward. I would urge against this however and suggest Carl walks off into the sunset after a fantastic career, 3 times world champion and a future hall of famer.
