Image: Bute doesn't plan on retiringBy Scott Gilfoid: After his loss to Carl Froch last Saturday night, former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-1, 24 KO’s) made it clear to the media that he DOES NOT intend on retiring from boxing just because of his 5th round TKO loss to Froch. Bute says he wants to take a badly needed vacation, and then come back and discuss with his promoter his options for his next fight.

Froch said he saw his win over Bute as a “Career-ending” loss for the talented Romanian fighter. Froch has got it wrong, dead wrong. This is merely a blip in the big scheme of things for Bute. He’s going back to iron out the mistakes he made and come back even better than he was before. Bute is not going to quit simply because he got taken out. The loss to Froch was more of a product of Bute being hurt in the 3rd round, and unable to recover from it. When you get really hurt it boxing, sometimes you can fold under the slightest bit of pressure in the following rounds. I think that was the case for Bute. He likely suffered a concussion in the 3rd and then was susceptible to Froch’s shots in the 4th and 5th.

Bute may or may not fight Froch again. That’s something they’re going to decide, but I think he should because Froch is very beatable and all Bute needs to do is study Froch’s fights against Andre Dirrell and Andre Ward to get the blueprint in how to beat him.

This loss won’t ruin Bute. He’s going to continue to have big success against the other top super middleweights in the division, and he’s got that huge fan base in Montreal that will continue to support him. Froch fights in front of 9000 fans in Nottingham, while Bute fights in front of 15,000 in Montreal. He’s a star and he’s not going to quit from one loss.
