The 35-year-old Adamek must first get past Eddie Chambers (36-2, 18 KO’s) in their fight next month on June 16th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The Chambers fight is no gimme for Adamek and he could very well lose the fight despite Chambers have a ton of ring rust from inactivity.

Povetkin, 32, is coming off of a controversial 12 round majority decision win over the big punching Marco Huck last February. Povetkin did enough to get the win but it was very close. Povetkin looked kind of flabby, as if he didn’t take his training as seriously as he should have. He was often out of breath in the fight, and after the bout was over, Povetkin could barely speak while being interviewed. Povetkin has defended his World Boxing Association title twice since winning the vacant title against Ruslan Chagaev in August 2011. He defeated Cedric Boswell last December in his first defense and then beat Huck in his second defense. Povetkin is expected to face #1 WBC Hasim Rahman next.

Adamek fought WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko by a 10th round TKO last September. Adamek looked horrible against the much bigger 6’7″ Vitali and was never even competitive for an instant before the fight was finally stopped in the 10th. Adamek rebounded from that defeat to beat Nagy Aguilera by 10 round unanimous decision last March. It was a much better performance from Adamek, albeit against a weaker opponent.

Adamek is a good fighter but he lacks size. He’ll probably do well against Povetkin if he can stay away from him by hitting and moving. But if he tries to fight him in a one on one fight, Adamek will get outworked. Adamek will likely choose to hit and move to earn a close decision win.
